About Rockingham Brass Band
Rockingham Brass Band is a thriving Third Section contesting band in Yorkshire, currently ranked 3rd in the 2026 Area grading table. Alongside contesting, we enjoy performing a lively programme of concerts and community events throughout the year. In December 2024, we became a registered charity, marking an exciting new chapter in our long history. With a near full band (a couple of cornet vacancies), strong committee support, and ambitious plans to develop our own premises and expand into training and youth bands in the future, this is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and forward-looking Musical Director.
The Role
We are seeking a Musical Director (MD) to lead the band musically and help us fulfil our artistic ambitions. The successful candidate will bring energy, creativity, and vision to the role, building on our established foundation and helping shape the next stage of Rockingham’s development.

Lead the band in contest performances, including the Yorkshire Regional Championships and 2–3 other contests annually.
-
Assist in finding suitable deputy players when required.

-
Contribute ideas and input into the band’s long-term musical and organisational growth.
What We’re Looking For

Proven conducting and rehearsal experience, preferably with brass bands.

A good knowledge of the brass band contesting scene, particularly at 3rd Section level.

A collaborative approach with the committee and a commitment to the band’s charitable aims.
